More of our NEW Kate Top - ideas and inspiration

Here's our latest Kate Top pattern made up in Italian stretch woven cotton/elastane Fence Jumping (limited stock available in Chatswood and Melbourne only). Despite the simplicity of this top design, it works beutifully with a large print and we think this one looks VERY Marni inspired.
Due to the thickness of this stretch woven, we decided to do the neckline and armhole bindings in a contrasting linen - Lilac Jin  - and sewed them to the inside of the garment.
The Kate Top pattern features exposed neckline and armhole bindings. If you want to turn this into a design feature, try using a contrast binding (in print, contrast colour etc) as we've done in the version above and below.
Here the Kate Top pattern is made up in vintage washed Black Wainscot linen with contrasting neckline and armhole bindings in Lulu Natural. To complete the top, a running stitch in natural coloured topstitch thread was applied on top of the stitched down hemline and side splits.

To do this, the original stitching (in matching black thread) along the hemline and side splits was sewn using a longer stitch length on the sewing machine (stitch length 3.5 or 4). Using topstitch thread in a contrast ntural colour, I hand sewed by picking up every second stitch. It gives a really simple, lovely and effective finish and highlights the detailing around the hemline and side splits.
