Introducing our latest pattern -
The Sydney Jacket. This oversized, draped design features a relaxed collar, side pockets and a back yoke that extends into cropped raglan sleeves. It's a great layering piece as well as being the perfect snuggly cover-up for those chilly autumn/winter months.
Sydney is a toasty all-rounder and looks equally great over jeans, dresses and skirts. All the edges are unfinished (no hemming! no binding!) which makes this a fantastically quick and simple sew.
With this pattern, it's REALLY important to remember that you must use a fabric that
does not fray when cut. I
love the
Primaluna (pictured above and below) but after picking and pulling at the cut edge, I realised it does in fact fray. To overcome this, I threw it in the machine (wash separately) and put it on a hot cycle. This further felted and softened it, fixing the fray and making it perfect for the
Sydney Jacket pattern. Also, don't forget to allow for 10% shrinkage if you decide to use this method.

Sydney Jacket Pattern is now available in both hardcopy and PDF print-at-home/actual size copy shop versions with sizes Petite, XS,S,M,L and XL all included. ReplyDeleteDo you have this pattern at the Surry Hills Sydney shop? I am coming over from NZ for 21-26 May and would love to buy it but probably need some advice on sizing. I have some handwoven wool I have had for about 20 years, which I think I can work into this pattern even though it frays. I may boil it, but also have some other ideas! Mainly coming for my yearly Liberty Lawn "fix". See you soon. Will bring the fabric!

DeleteNo I didn't lengthen mine, I made it up as per pattern as are Lisa's and Gabby's. I made up size Small. Lisa's is a size Petite (only the Petite size is slightly shorter than all of the other sizes XS-XL) and Gabby is wearing the size XS. Hope this helps x

DeleteYou always make such cute patterns for sewing. These are gorgeous pieces.
ReplyDeleteOr, if you wanted to use a fabric that frayed, bind the edge or serge with wooly nylon! (I've made a similar style of fuzzy woven plaid and added a wide 3-thread serge. Looks amazing.)
