'Some of my worst mistakes, are my best creations'

I love this phrase Julie (Bernina Chatswood) used - 'some of my worst mistakes are my best creations' when describing this top she made recently in our striped viscose/elastane jersey Black & White Wally.

According to Julie this top started out in Kwiksew 3720 pattern. Julie cut the top out with the stripes on the diagonal, but when the top was complete Julie was disappointed with the end result!

Not letting this stop her from creating a truly fabulous top, Julie then recut and reshaped the front and back, changed the sleeves making one set in and leaving the other extended at the top and added a seam to them almost half way down where she joined a fitted sleeve to the bottom creating a lovely effect with stripe direction.

Julie scooped the neckline lower and utilised any left over fabric to create a funnel cowl, cutting and join the stripes in different directions. A Bernina walking foot was used on her machine to help match up the stripes when sewing and finishing off with lovely twin needle finish on the sleeves and bottom hem. This top is really striking and testament that a little perseverance goes a long way!
